Helping Every Therapy Seeker Find the Right Fit

Compatibility is the most important factor when choosing a therapist. But finding the right fit isn’t easy. First Session takes the time, guesswork, and emotional labour out of that process.

  • Search a curated therapist network

Narrow your search to a list of rigorously vetted therapists you’ll actually consider booking. Because finding a therapist shouldn’t involve reading endless generic bios.

  • Assess for fit before you commit

Decide if a therapist is the right fit for you before booking with interview videos and in-depth bios. No more switching or re-telling your private feelings and story

  • Book directly (and instantly)

Schedule an available session or free consultation right from the First Session platform. No 3rd party intake calls or back and forth emailing required.

Free yourself from the stress of endless searching and switching

Convenience-first approach to finding a Desjardins

  • Burnout from endless search results and unhelpful Desjardins profiles.
  • Disappointment and frustration from generic intake calls and unproductive ‘free’ consultations.
  • Emotional stress from repeatedly revealing private thoughts and feelings to incompatible Desjardinss

  • Risk of abandoning therapy process altogether because of frustration, exhaustion, or depression

Connection-first approach to finding a Desjardins with First Session

  • Instantly create a short-list of Desjardinss qualified to support your journey
  • Get to know a Desjardins’s personality, approach, and experience before booking
  • Share your private history, thoughts, and feelings only if there’s a connection
  • Save time and minimize stress by finding the right fit without endless switching
  • Make meaningful progress sooner and commit to lasting, meaningful change

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Desjardins cover therapy in Ontario?

Usually through the extended healthcare benefit, if your employer included it. Desjardins lists psychologists, social workers and psychotherapists among the covered practitioners, but each policy sets its own maximum.

Ask your benefits advisor which titles are named. Then search the listings above by that designation.

Does Desjardins cover a Registered Psychotherapist in Toronto?

Desjardins names psychotherapists in its mental health material, so a plan may include them. The policy wording decides.

Ask whether it says psychotherapist or Registered Psychotherapist, and whether it requires CRPO registration. The profile shows the therapist's designation.

How do I submit a Desjardins therapy claim?

Log in to the secure member site or the Omni app, choose Submit a claim, and attach the receipt. You must be registered for direct deposit to claim online.

Claims must be submitted within 12 months of treatment. First Session provides a receipt after each paid session.

What if my plan covers psychologists only?

Then book a psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Rates in a 2023 Toronto fee guide ran $220 to $250 an hour.

Use the designation filter on the listings, and confirm the cap on sessions or dollars before the second appointment.

Can I claim online therapy sessions with Desjardins?

The claim runs on the receipt and the designation, so ask your benefits advisor whether the plan accepts virtual sessions with an Ontario-registered therapist.

Therapists in the second listing are insured to provide online care to Ontario clients.

Is there free therapy in Toronto if my benefits run out?

Yes, for adults 18 and over with depression or anxiety-related symptoms. The Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program offers free, publicly funded cognitive-behavioural therapy, according to Ontario Health.

In Toronto, professionals refer through Access CAMH, and individuals can self-refer using the program's form.
