Meet Alex

Alex Palahniuk is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who offers a friendly, safe, and confidential space where clients can begin talking about difficult experiences, concerns, and problems they may not feel able to share elsewhere. Originally from Ukraine and now living in Canada for many years, Alex brings an understanding of cultural differences and the stigma that can sometimes surround mental health, especially for clients from communities where therapy may feel unfamiliar. He sees himself as a guide who helps clients better understand themselves, clarify what they are struggling with, and move toward their goals. Alex invites clients to start wherever they are, even if they do not know exactly what the issue is, and reminds them that they are not alone.

My experiences and interests give me a unique understanding of…
  • The challenges adults and young adults face during life transitions and periods of change.
  • How anxiety, stress, and burnout can affect daily functioning, work, and relationships.
  • The emotional impact of relationship difficulties, communication problems, and boundary-setting struggles.
  • The experience of feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from personal goals and values.
  • The importance of developing self-awareness, emotional regulation skills, and practical coping strategies.
  • The value of a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood while working toward change.
My cultural or ancestral background is…
  • Ukrainian, with professional and personal experience across Ukrainian and Canadian cultural contexts.
  • I currently live and practice in Canada, and work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • I value cultural sensitivity and understand how culture can influence mental health, identity, and relationships.
My clients describe me using words like…
  • Warm and supportive
  • Calm and understanding
  • Professional and practical
  • Attentive
  • Non-judgmental
  • Clear, structured and solution-focused
  • Insightful,
  • Collaborative
  • Empathetic

Booking FAQ

Does Alex offer direct billing with my insurance? Or how does payment work?

First Session charges each session directly to your credit card. Once each session occurs, and your card is charged, you will receive a PDF receipt to your email with all of the details you will need to get reimbursed (therapist name, license/designation, license number, address, etc). You can then submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage.

We always recommend you check with your insurance provider to confirm what coverage you have.

How do I know if Alex is a good fit?

You are the expert when it comes to knowing who is the right fit. Ensure you’ve watched the therapist video at the top of their profile and see if you get a good feeling from the message and the energy they are putting out. If you feel drawn to speak with them, listen to your gut! Booking a free consultation is a great first step to asses fit.
