Can I see in-person and online therapists?

Yes. Through First Session, you can find both in-person therapists in Toronto (look for "In-Person" on their profile) and online therapists.

Will I need to pay out of pocket for therapy?

Yes. First Session charges each session directly to your credit card. Once each session occurs, and your card is charged, you will receive a PDF receipt to your email with all of the details you will need to get reimbursed (therapist name, license/designation, license number, address, etc). You can then submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.

How do I submit a claim for therapy sessions under the U of T insurance plans?

For UTSU plans, you can find the claim forms here. You can also submit your claims directly through GreenShield here.

Is First Session affiliated with U of T?

No. First Session is an independent company and is not affiliated with the University of Toronto.
We created this page specifically to support U of T students, and all the information here has been carefully researched. The therapists listed are independent professionals whose sessions are eligible for reimbursement through your student health insurance.

How do I know if a therapist is a good fit?

You are the expert when it comes to knowing who is the right fit. Ensure you’ve watched the therapist video at the top of their profile, and see if you get a good feeling from the message and the energy they are putting out. If you feel drawn to speak with them, listen to your gut! Booking a free consultation is a great first step to asses fit.
