Meet Maureen

Maureen Elworthy is a Registered Clinical Counsellor whose work is grounded in somatic experiencing, nervous system awareness, and trauma-informed care. She often supports clients who have tried talk therapy but feel they have not reached the deeper patterns or root causes held in the body. Maureen also brings experience as a death doula and suicide intervention responder, supporting people through complex, disenfranchised, or often-minimized grief. Her approach is compassionate, steady, and relational, helping clients explore trauma, grief, emotions, sensations, and inner patterns at a pace that feels supported. Maureen sees therapy as a way to care for the inner world, build new tools for difficult moments, and make more space for joy.

My experiences and interests give me a unique understanding of…
  • How polyvagal theory and Somatic Experiencing can support healing after trauma experiences.
  • Change theory and the neuroscience behind how we sustain change.
  • Disenfranchised grief, loss, and navigating the world around us while deep in grief.
  • Lived experience of neurodivergence, specifically ADHD.
  • Lived experience of queer identity and living in a mixed-orientation relationship.
My cultural or ancestral background is…
  • My ancestral lineage is English, Irish, and Scottish. I am actively reconnecting with cultural and spiritual practices from my ancestral lines, and I welcome clients who are exploring their ancestral roots, whatever those may be.
My clients describe me using words like…
  • Warm
  • Present
  • Attuned
  • Collaborative
  • Playful
  • Transparent
  • Authentic

Booking FAQ

Does Maureen offer direct billing with my insurance? Or how does payment work?

First Session charges each session directly to your credit card. Once each session occurs, and your card is charged, you will receive a PDF receipt to your email with all of the details you will need to get reimbursed (therapist name, license/designation, license number, address, etc). You can then submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage.

We always recommend you check with your insurance provider to confirm what coverage you have.

How do I know if Maureen is a good fit?

You are the expert when it comes to knowing who is the right fit. Ensure you’ve watched the therapist video at the top of their profile and see if you get a good feeling from the message and the energy they are putting out. If you feel drawn to speak with them, listen to your gut! Booking a free consultation is a great first step to asses fit.
